Kenya Premier League champions Tusker FC launched their bid to defend their title in the wrong fashion, losing 1-0 to AFC Leopards.

Saad Musa Mugabe scored the only goal in the 19th minute at the Thika Stadium, to ensure all three points on the road for Leopards.

Robert Matano's Tusker won the league last season for the first time since 2016, whilst their opponents are still on the hunt after a 23-year drought.

Elsewhere, Gor Mahia began the season well with a 2-1 win over last season's runners-up Kenya Commercial Bank FC.

Bernard Omalla's brace was enough for the record Kenyan league champions as they sit in third place on the table after match day one.

Bandari took charge of the standings after they convincingly beat Mathare United 3-0 to guarantee a superior goal difference over their challengers.

New signing Whyvonne Isuza scored a first-half brace to get the dockers on their way, before Umaru Kasumba put the icing on the cake 10 minutes after the restart.

Sofapaka picked up where they left off last season, beating Nairobi City Stars 3-1 to finish the weekend in second place.

Ghanaian import Stephen Opoku was on target for Nicholas Muyoti's Kakamega Homeboyz as they beat newcomers Police FC 1-0 on Saturday.

Other newbies Talanta FC launched their life in the Kenyan top flight with a 1-1 draw against Wazito FC.

Their club top scorer last season in the National Super League, Brian Yakhama, scored a penalty in the second half to salvage a point for his side.

Kariobangi Sharks battled to a 1-0 victory over Posta Rangers, as well as Ulinzi Stars who beat Nzoia Sugar by the same scoreline.
