Kenya Premier League champions Tusker only have themselves to blame after a string of missed chances saw them play out to a barren draw against CS Sfaxien on Sunday.

The match was the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup play-off round and they will rue their missed opportunities as they aim to make a debut in the Group stage.

While Tusker was relegated to the Caf Confederation Cup after the heavy loss to Zamalek, CS Sfaxien beat Nigerian Premier League side Bayelsa 5-0 on aggregate in the first round.

The brewers had the chances to score especially in the opening half, but their lack of sharpness in front of goal was their main undoing as they went for the fourth match in the last five without scoring a goal.

Tusker were dropping to the second tier Confederation Cup after elimination from the Champions League and with a historic group stage berth at stake, they needed a huge lift.

At the half-hour mark, Tusker should have taken the lead after Tanzanian striker Joshua found himself unmarked inside the box but he sent his glancing header wide off the right-hand post with Sfaxien keeper Dahmen beaten.

Tusker made changes with John Njuguna, Deogratious Ojok and Teddy Osok coming in to refresh the team and add some punch in attack, but they couldn’t get the much needed goal.

Tusker now travel to Sfax for the return tie next Sunday, needing a win or a scoring draw to book a first ever slot in the group phase of the Confederation Cup.
