The AFC
Leopards National Executive Committee has come to the defense of their
underfire head coach Tom Juma after a section of its fans called for his
sacking following their dismal start to the 2023/24 Football Kenya Federation
Premier League season.
Back in
July this year, Ingwe announced that Juma would be elevated to the head coach position
after Belgian tactician Patrick Aussems opted against renewing his contract
with the 12-time Kenyan champions.
Since then,
it has not been smooth sailing for the former assistant coach as AFC Leopards
have failed to record any win in their opening three games that have been
played so far this season.
What’s
more, the club has failed to score even a single goal in all the three matches
despite having brought in upto 20 players over the off-season transfer window.
Over the
weekend, the 0-0 draw against Muhoroni Youth at Kasarani Stadium culminated
with fans belting out ‘Juma must go’ chants after the results left the team
sitting in 14th place on 2 points which is already five points
behind joint table-toppers Posta Rangers and fierce rivals Gor Mahia.
Following the
happenings on Saturday, the club has thrown their weight behind Juma as they
called on fans to show their patience on the coaching staff.
“The management of the Club is pleased to announce its unwavering
confidence in the leadership of the technical bench, headed by Mr. Tom Juma.
The club remains committed to achieving its goals and aspirations, and we trust
that the technical bench is well-equipped to guide us toward victory.
Tom Juma and his team have been working
tirelessly to prepare the squad for success this season. Their dedication and
expertise are instrumental in achieving our goals, and we anticipate excellent
results in the matches to come.
We call upon our dedicated fans to remain
optimistic and continue supporting the team passionately. Your unwavering
support is the driving force behind our success, and together, we can achieve
greatness and make this season one to remember,” the statement read.
AFC
Leopards next face Kenya Police and newly-promoted Shabana before coming up
against Gor Mahia.
