Tottenham Hotspur have sacked Nuno Espirito Santo as head coach just four months after he took charge of the London club.

Nuno was appointed on a two-year contract in July to replace Jose Mourinho with a heavy onus to try and bring silverware to the rather unsuccessful club.

Saturday's 3-0 defeat to Manchester United was their fifth loss of the embryonic campaign, leaving them in 8th place with 15 points.

"The club can today announce that Nuno Espírito Santo and his coaching staff Ian Cathro, Rui Barbosa and Antonio Dias have been relieved of their duties.

"I know how much Nuno and his coaching staff wanted to succeed and I regret that we have had to take this decision," Fabio Paratici, Managing Director, Football, said

"Nuno is a true gentleman and will always be welcome here. We should like to thank him and his coaching staff and wish them well for the future," he added.

Tottenham have failed to show any sort of consistency this season and rumors have it that they are trying to persuade former Chelsea and Inter Milan coach Antonio Conte to take over.

Porto manager Sergio Conceicao and his Portuguese compatriot Paulo Fonseca, who has been heavily linked to the vacant job at Newcastle, are believed to be among potential replacements as well.
