NAIROBI, Kenya- The most anticipated fixture in the SportPesa Premier League (SPL) calendar headlines match-day nine as champions Gor Mahia FC prepare to host eternal rivals AFC Leopards SC on Sunday at the Kasarani Stadium.

The derby had lost its essence in the recent years but this one holds more weight as both sides go into the game level on points (15) in second and third place respectively.

Gor are coming off two losses against DC Motema Pembe to dump them out of CAF Confederations Cup and a midweek 1-0 league loss to unbeaten Mathare United FC.

Leopards on the other hand have not had such a great start to a league campaign since 2014 and look on course to challenge for a title that has evaded them for 21 years.

Andre Casa Mbungo's side has not lost since September 1 when they went down 1-0 to Kakamega Homeboyz FC.

League leaders Tusker FC also have an uphill task this weekend as they go up against fourth-place Kenya Commercial Bank FC (KCB) on Saturday afternoon.

KCB are two points adrift of the 2016 SPL champions and could end the day at the top of the league standings if they manage a win against the brewers.

Mathare, who are in sixth place after the Gor victory, will battle it out against Sony Sugar FC who are languishing in 16th place after managing only one win all season long.

Eighth-place Ulinzi Stars FC have 13 points and are unbeaten in five matches whilst Bandari have 11 in tenth place after they were stunned 3-1 by Western Stima FC in midweek.

Stima, who are the only other side who are unbeaten in the league, will lock horns with fifth place Kakamega Homeboyz FC on Sunday at the Bukhungu Stadium.
