Harambee Stars seek bounce back in second World Cup qualifiers against Seychelles

The men’s national football team Harambee Stars will be seeking to bounce back from their opening defeat in the FIFA 2026 World Cup Qualifiers when they clash against Seychelles in their second Group F match set to take place on Monday (20) night at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.

The Engin Firat coached side, who are currently ranked in position 110 on the FIFA rankings, saw their qualifying campaign get off to a losing start after being beaten 2-1 by Gabon on Friday and will be out to at least get a positive result when they face a lowly-ranked Seychelles side in position 195.

Seychelles were handed a 9-0 thrashing in their opening qualifier that was against Ivory and will be on damage control mode when they take on a Kenyan side also in desperate need of results having failed to get a win in any of their three matches (2L 1D).

“We have to win the next match. Next time, we will have our full squad to show how good we are. We will go there to win, there is no other point because we need these points. In this group, all teams are very strong,” Firat said.

Kenya were forced to play the Gabon game without their regular defensive line but the team is expected to at least get the services of some of their preferred starters according to Firat with Eric ‘Marcelo’ Ouma thought to be in line for contention.

The two sides have met three times previously with Kenya emerging triumphant on all occasions in encounters that saw Harambee Stars scoring at least two goals in all the matches, form that will give the Kenyans some confidence ahead of the clash.
