Kenyan forward Esse Mbeyu Akida has achieved an incredible feat by winning a third consecutive Greek Women’s League title with PAOK FC.

PAOK were declared champions after they thrashed rivals OFI FC 3-0 in a one-sided game played at the Dimotiko Gipedo Neoi Epivates Stadium on Saturday evening.

The win took the club’s tally to 68 points, 12 more than the second-placed OFI FC and ensured they defended the trophy with a few matches remaining to the end of the season.

Reacting after being confirmed champions, Akida took to social to express her excitement for laying her hands on the title once again.

The St. Johns Kaloleni Girls Secondary School alumni posted a picture on Facebook of her celebrating with teammates with a brief caption that read “Champion again”.

The 31-year-old joined the club in the summer of 2021 from the disbanded Kenya Women’s Premier League side Thika Queens.

She won her maiden league title that season, finding the back of the net 17 times in the process, a performance that earned her a nomination for the Women’s Professional Footballers Association (PSAPP) awards.

Akida, who was part of the Harambee Starlets squad that made history by qualifying for the first-ever Women’s African Cup of Nations (AWCON) tournament in 2016, continued with her impressive performances during the 2022/2023 season, once again playing an instrumental role to help PAOK win the title.

The skillful forward, who can also be deployed as a winger, scored 12 goals that season and provided a number of assists.

Finally, with the 2023/2024 season reaching its penultimate stage, it is unclear whether Akida will play for PAOK next season since her contract is expected to expire in a few weeks.
