SUMMARY
  • The game looked set to end in a frustrating barren draw.
  • Ochieng' however had other ideas with the match winning goal in the 91st minute.
  • The win took Gor ten points ahead of second placed Bandari.

Record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia moved ten points clear at the top of the 23/24 Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) table after edging Kariobangi Sharks 1-0 in a closely contested encounter staged at the Machakos Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

In the game that looked set to end in a frustrating barren draw, man of the moment Christopher Ochieng, who had been subbed on in the 64th minute in place of Patrick Sibomana, proved to be just what the doctor ordered as he unleashed a thunderous strike in the 91st minute to score the match winning goal that cemented Gor’s lead at the top of the table.

The win, K’Ogalo’s eleventh of the season, also ensured that the Johnathan McKinstry-coached side remained unbeaten as they strengthened their quest for a record-extending 21st title with only sixteen games left before the current campaign comes to an end.

“We are really pleased with the game today because we want our players to take more shots at goal. If you do not take those chances and keep on dribbling instead of shooting, you can never score those types of goal.

The team also showed some special character to keep on playing because it was a frustrating game because Sharks kept on committing a lot of fouls. Overall, we are just pleased,” McKinstry noted.
