SUMMARY
  • Gor Mahia chairperson Ambrose Rachier has denied any talks regarding Omala’s move to USM Alger.
  • USM Alger are currently the CAF Confederation Cup champions.

Gor Mahia’s excellent run this season has made some of its players linked with various local and international clubs.

Clinical forward Benson Omalla is the recent big name to be associated with a move away from the current league leaders as numerous reports have indicated that the 22-year-old is a target of Algerian side USM Alger.

However, in an exclusive interview with SportPesa News, Gor Mahia chairperson Ambrose Rachier has denied any talks regarding Omala’s move to the North African club.

“That news (Omalla being linked with a move away) is not true as far as I am concerned. Being the chairperson of Gor Mahia, I have not been contacted by anybody about the transfer or sale of Omalla.

So, we are not aware of any intended sale or transfer of Omalla to put it briefly,” Rachier said.

He added that if any club was interested in acquiring the services of the Kisumu Day alumni, they would have contacted Gor Mahia’s management.

“It remains something that I read on social media. My answer has always been that, if somebody is interested in Benson Omalla, they will be able to come and talk to us about the transfer. But talking in the background does not augur well as far as I am concerned,” stated the long-serving chairperson.

Omalla was said to have been offered a mouth-watering 30 months contract by USM Alger. Some of the widespread rumors went a step further to give the exact amount of salary that the goal poacher was to earn per month.

According to the unreliable information, USM Alger was to pay $50,000 (approximately Ksh 8,100,000) in order to secure the player’s signature.

On the other hand, Omalla was to earn a monthly salary of $20,000 (approximately Ksh 3,240,000) every month.

Omala has been influential for the record Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) champions this season.

Despite not finding the bag of the net in recent matches, he currently leads the Golden Boot race with nine goals, three ahead of Moses Shumah from Kakamega Homeboyz and Nairobi City Stars’ Vincent Owino.

The highly-rated player is expected to lead Gor Mahia’s attack in the eagerly awaited clash against Robert Matano’s coached Tusker FC side slated for Saturday January 19 at the Machakos Stadium.
