NAIROBI, Kenya- SportPesa Premier League (SPL) champions and log leaders Gor Mahia FC's will be forced to see out the remainder of the campaign without star forward, Dennis Oliech after he was ruled out for six weeks with a fractured arm.

The club's website reported that the Kenya record international scorer is in 'stable condition' but will not feature in the run-in having joined K'Ogalo in January on his shock return to domestic football for the first time since leaving Mathare United FC in 2002.

Oliech picked his injury in their barren draw against Western Stima FC in Kisumu on Sunday where the titleholders spurned chances to increase their seven-point gap at the top over Sofapaka FC (53) having played a game less than their closest challengers.

“Dennis got a fracture on one of his arms and might be out of action for some time”, Gor team manager, Jolawi Obondo, told the club's website.

'Kajole' as Oliech is fondly known was reportedly injured after a Western Stima defender recklessly brought him down, causing him to awkwardly fall on his left hand and was rushed to hospital where images on social media showed the affected arm in a cast.

Hotly tipped

The champions who have played 27 SPL games thus far are hotly tipped to retain their crown and seal a record-extending 18th domestic league success and the third in succession with seven left to see out the season.

Oliech has been a hit since joining the glamour club, scoring the winner against Posta Rangers FC on his second game in a Gor shirt and recently, scored to give his side the lead against arch rivals Ulinzi Stars FC before the soldiers fought back to level the contest at 1-1 in full time.

The former French Ligue 1 outfits Nantes Atlantique, Ajaccio and AJ Auxerre forward was the only Gor player to find the target in their doomed defence of the SportPesa Cup in Tanzania when he notched their goal in a 1-2 shock defeat to Tanzanian debutants Mbao FC in January.

He famously scored a fourth in their stirring 4-2 victory over five-time African champions, Zamalek FC in a CAF Confederations Cup group stage clash in Nairobi that set the Kenyan giants on their way to punch their tickets to the quarterfinals of the competition for the first time ever.

Gor's stalemate at Moi Kisumu Stadium in Kisumu came in the aftermath of their breathless 3-3 draw against KCB FC where the champions came from 0-3 down to rescue a point.

Their next assignment is away to Chemelil Sugar FC on Wednesday in the SPL.
