NAIROBI, Kenya- New Gor Mahia FC coach Steven George Pollack has maintained a positive attitude and believes that his side has what it takes to progress to the next stage of the CAF Champions League.

Pollack, who was unveiled as coach last Thursday in Nairobi, was in charge as the SportPesa Premier League (SPL) champions played out to a barren draw against Aigle Noir in Bujumbura.

Patrick Odhiambo will deputize the former Asante Kotoko FC coach in the upcoming season and despite holding only one training session before the outing, Pollack remains positive about the tie.

“I was very impressed by the players' attitude during the entire trip. The build-up was difficult but they performed well and I’m happy with the result.

“I only trained with them once but I’m happy that their response is already showing,” the English-Finnish tactician stated.

The club left for Burundi with only 15 players after CAF did not accept the late entries to the travelling squad, having also unveiled 17 new players last week to fill the void left by star players such as Jacques Tuyisenge, Francis Kahata and captain Harun Shakava.

Following the departure of Shakava, prodigal son Kenneth Muguna was named the new club captain ahead of the 2019/20 SPL season, his assistant will be Joash Onyango.

“We played on Sunday and face Bandari in the Super Cup this weekend. That will be sufficient to prepare us to the level we want to be.

“I want them to buy into my philosophy fully so that I can fully implement my strategies,” Pollack continued.
