NAIROBI, Kenya- SportPesa Premier League (SPL) champions Gor Mahia FC resumed their quest for a third successive title in fine fashion with a 2-1 victory over Kenya Commercial Bank FC on Sunday afternoon.

New signing Francis Afiriye got his first goal for the club in the 12th minute before Lawrence Juma doubled their advantage two minutes after the half hour mark.

Former Gor striker and two-time Player of the Month winner Enock Agwanda scored KCB’s consolation in the 39th minute, to end a pulsating first half.

The result leaves Gor in third with six points and a game in hand after the Kenyan Premier League postponed their rearranged fixture against Chemelil Sugar FC.

Meanwhile KCB dropped to seventh on the SPL table with four points, still having managed only one win in the new SPL season.

Elsewhere, sixth-place Sofapaka FC were the biggest winners on the weekend with an impressive 4-0 win against Chemelil, who remain rooted to the bottom of the table.

Kakamega Homeboyz FC also registered a dominant 3-0 victory over SportPesa Cup winners Kariobangi Sharks FC at the Bukhungu Stadium.

The hard-fought victory propelled Homeboyz to first place on the embryonic SPL table with seven points, ahead of Bandari FC on goal difference after the dockers beat Sony Sugar FC 1-0 on the day.

The 2016 SPL champions Tusker FC came from behind with two late goals from Luka Namanda and Timothy Otieno to beat Zoo FC 2-1.

Western Stima FC were the other winners on match-day three of the SPL with a narrow 1-0 triumph over 10th-place Posta Rangers FC.

Stima are now in fifth place with five points and remain as part of the five teams that are yet to lose a game this season.
