NAIROBI, Kenya- Kenya
Premier League (KPL) leaders Gor Mahia FC extended their lead at the top of the
standings to four points despite being held to a 1-1 draw by Western Stima FC
on Wednesday afternoon.
Both teams finished the game with 10 men and had to settle
for a point at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu, taking Gor’s tally to 45 after 20
games.
The first piece of action saw Harambee Stars defender Joash
Onyango shown a straight red card after bringing down Benson Omala.
Gor played well under pressure and took the lead in the 48th
minute through former Administration Police winger Clifton Miheso.
Stima pulled one back in the 66th minute before also being
reduced to 10 men, nine minutes after the celebrations.
The result sees Stima remain in seventh place with 32
points, as their five-match winless run continues.
Earlier, Bandari FC won their first game in six as they
battled to a 2-1 victory against Kenya Commercial Bank FC (KCB) at the Mbaraki
Stadium.
William Wadri got the dockers off the mark with a penalty in
the 47th and had to wait for substitute Yema Mwama’s well taken effort in the 75th
to seal all three points.
Mwama has been on the sidelines with an injury and the
Bandari fans in attendance lauded his return.
The bankers pulled one back with two minutes left in the
game but it was too little too late as Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno’s charges lost a second
successive game.
Despite the loss, KCB remain in fourth place with 38 points
and will need to rediscover their winning formula before the next assignment
against Posta Rangers FC.
Bandari remain in 11th with 23 points.
