Benjamin Kigen opened up the medal tally for Kenya as he came home in third to claim bronze in the final of the men's 3000m steeplechase.

The bronze was the first medal for Kenya at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympics after he finished with a time of 8.11.45.

Soufiane El Bakkali won the Gold medal with a time of 8.08.90, making history as the first Moroccan to win Gold in the event. 

Lamecha Girma claimed silver for Ethiopia, as he finished in 8.10.38.

The other Kenyan in the race Abraham Kibiwott could only manage a 10th place finish.
