NAIROBI, Kenya- Ten-man Kenya Commercial Bank FC (KCB)'s hopes of challenging for a maiden Kenya Premier League title were dented on Sunday afternoon as they were beaten 2-1 by Bandari FC at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
The dockers, who have been on an impressive turn around of form since re-appointing coach Ken Odhiambo, came out victorious in the hotly-contested affair courtesy of a quickfire second half brace by John Mwita.
The win means Bandari are unbeaten in their last five matches and remain in 11th place with 29 points, 12 less than KCB who round up the KPL top five.
KCB finished the match with 10 men after former Gor Mahia FC defender Pascal Ogweno was shown a red card after he was judged to have elbowed the two-goal hero Mwita with 10 minuted left in the game.
Elsewhere, second place Kakamega Homeboyz FC pulled off arguably the greatest comeback win of the season, coming from 2-0 down to beat Nzoia Sugar FC 3-2 at the Bukhungu Stadium.
Aside from the thrilling turn-around, Homeboyz needed only 12 second half minutes to do so, including a 95th minute winner to take their points tally to 47, four behind league leaders Gor Mahia FC.
Captain Peter Gin and Benson Muchuma gave Nzoia a comfortable first half lead and they seemed to be on course for only a third win of the 2019/20 KPL campaign until veteran Allan Wanga struck in the 83rd minute to give the home side hope.
Former Chemelil Sugar FC ace Benjamin Oketch then scored to restore parity five minutes later before a long period of Homeboyz pressure caused Collins Okoth's side to break and concede a late goal to condemn them to a devastating 13th loss of the season.
The sugar millers remain in 15th place with 12 points, three more than basement clubs Chemelil and Kisumu All Stars FC.
There was nothing to separate Posta Rangers FC and Mathare United FC on the day as both sides played out to a 1-1 draw.
Crispin Odour gave the Slum Boys the lead in the 67th and Francis Nambutie leveled matters in the 78th, with neither team looking very threatening throughout the encounter.
Both sides have 30 points but ninth place Mathare have played one game less than their opponents who complete the KPL top 10.
Earlier in the first of the two matches played at the Kenyatta Stadium, Wazito FC bagged their fourth win of the campaign in fine fashion as they deomlished Zoo FC 4-1 to stretch their unbeaten run to four games.
Former KCB left back Dennis Ngángá opened the scoring in the 22nd for Stewart Hall's side but free scoring Collins Neto made it 1-1 on the half hour mark.
New signing and veteran striker Paul Mwangi Kiongera restored the lead thre minutes later and Augustine Otu added another to give Wazito a 3-1 half time lead.
James Waithira added a fourth with 16 minutes left in the game as Wazito held on for the important victory that raises their tally to 19 points as they continue their bid to avoid the relegation axe back into the National Super League.
