The prestigious award went to the late Kelvin Kiptum who lowered Eliud Kipchoge’s marathon world record from 2:01.09 to 2:00.35 at the 2023 Chicago Marathon. He also won the London Marathon title in a course record time of 2:01.25

Daniel Simiu Ebenyo and the fast-rising 800m runner Emmanuel Wanyonyi settled for second and third place finishes.
