NAKURU, Kenya- David Majak crowned his first start for Tusker FC with a goal as the 11-time winners held on for a 1-1 draw with Mathare United FC despite going down to 10-men in the only SportPesa Premier League fixture on Saturday afternoon at Afraha Stadium, Nakuru.

Signed in the mid-season transfer window, Majak, who made his debut for the Brewers in their 1-1 draw against Western Stima FC when he came off the bench converted from the spot in the 14th minute to reward the decision by head coach Robert 'The Lion' Matano to include him in the starting 11.

The 19 year-old former Kapenguria Heroes player put his new side ahead when his strike partner Sydney Ochieng' was upended in the box by Mathare's Francis Omondi.

However, the lead lasted barely two minutes when the 2008 champions' star attacking midfielder, Cliff Nyakeya, levelled the contest also from the spot when he sent Tusker keeper, Emery Mvuyekure, the wrong way when Marlon Tangauzi was penalised for handling the ball inside the danger area.

Mvuyekure's afternoon got worse when he was sent off after the assistant referee ruled he had stopped a clear goal-scoring opportunity in the final 10 minutes of the encounter earning him a red card for a professional foul.

Sydney Ochieng' was sacrificed for reserve keeper Robert Mboya as the Brewers navigated through the closing stages of the game to leave Afraha with a share of the spoils.

Mathare (35) remained fourth on the SPL log, nine points off leaders Gor Mahia FC who are in CAF Confederations Cup action on Sunday, after missing the chance to move above Bandari (36) to third.

Tusker (28) remain seventh ahead of Sony Sugar FC and Western Stima FC on goal-difference.

On Sunday, second-placed Sofapaka FC (37) have the chance to close the gap with Gor to four points when they travel to Kericho to face relegation-threatened Zoo Kericho FC (17) with the tie of the day featuring a repeat of the 2019 SportPesa Cup final when Bandari host Kariobangi Sharks FC (30) at the Mbaraki Stadium in Mombasa.
