KISUMU, Kenya- Champions Gor Mahia FC scaled to the summit of the 2018/19 SportPesa Premier League (SPL) after ending their miserable run against domestic cup holders, Kariobangi Sharks FC 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Moi Stadium, Kisumu.

At the same time, Chemelil Sugar FC stunned 11-time champions Tusker FC by the same score at the Chemelil Sugar Complex in yet another serious knock to the Brewers' aspirations of reclaiming the crown from K'Ogalo.

Amid reports of ugly incidents at half time, Gor had to come from behind to clinch victory with Lawrence Juma levelling the contest at 1-1 in the 28th minute after last season's SPL Golden Boot winner, Eric Kapaito put the SportPesa Shield holders ahead in the 20th.

Kenya international, Francis Kahata, decided the affair with a goal right from the top draw shortly after the start of the second half to lift the champions, who had fallen to Sharks in their last three meeting in a row, to 38 points, two above Sofapaka FC with two games in hand.

Sharks who came to this match on the back of a 1-3 beating to Tusker, slipped down to fifth on 29.

Tusker enjoyed a bright start at Chemelil when Boniface Muchiri gave them the advantage after only 13 minutes but a late capitulation in the opening stanza saw the home side hit back with strikes from Lucal Waire and Musa Oundu.
