BAKU, Azerbaijan- Revamped SportPesa Racing Point Formula One team leave the fourth leg of the 21-race circuit in high spirits after a scintillating performance saw both drivers finish among the points.

Mexican driver Sergio Perez and his teammate Lance Stroll amassed a total of 10 points for SportPesa Racing after finishing in sixth and ninth respectively.

Mercedes continued their dominance in the 2019 F1 season, with Valtterri Bottas finishing ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton, while Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel came in third.

Perez had an outstanding performance during qualifying and finished fifth with a time of 1:41.593, granting him his highest placement on the starting grid this season.

Stroll on the other hand who started in 16th place, displayed superb and quality driving to gain a remarkable seven places to ensure that he got two points from the race.

“It has been a fantastic day. I am happy we succeeded in keeping our position.

“Now we can celebrate a good day for the team with both cars in the points,” Perez stated after the race in Baku.

The result leaves Perez, who finished in third during the 2017 edition, in sixth on the driver standings with 13 points after four races.

His Canadian-Belgian teammate Stroll moved up a spot into 14th with four points, overtaking Toro Rosso’s youngster Alexander Albon.

“It feels good to be back in the points because it was a very challenging race.

“This is a track that has no margin for error, keeping concentration was a key factor and that is what we did today,” Stroll underlined.

The team now shifts focus to the first European race of the calendar in Barcelona on May 12, with the steady improvement hinting that the season can only get better for SportPesa Racing.
