NAIROBI, Kenya-  SportPesa FC and Ghetto Radio FC will engage in a friendly football match at Loreto Convent Valley Road in Nairobi on Thursday to honour fallen journalist, James Oduor Radido, popularly known as Odu Cobra.

Cobra passed away on Tuesday following a terrorist attack at 14 Riverside Park in Nairobi. He was among the players who were to take part in the game planned last week.

“It’s so sad that Cobra will not be part of the clash. We are going to miss his aggressiveness on the field,” SportPesa captain, Joe Sakwa, underlined.

“I remember him as a jovial person, a beast in the midfield who championed for unity through sport and would always crack us up with his witty lines both on and off the pitch. He will truly be missed,” Sakwa added.

Cobra led his side, Hippos FC, against SportPesa early last year, steering them to a 3-1 victory. Hippos later lost the return leg by a similar margin.

Ghetto Radio skipper, Paul ‘Polosa’ Ojenge recalls of his time with Cobra terming him a good friend and a great football pundit.

“We grew up together in the same hood. He stayed in Kariokor and I in Ziwani. We had a lot in common including football that brought us together,” Ojenge underscored.

“While growing up, we played at Umeme Grounds in Ziwani. He was my team mate at the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) FC where we were both defenders.

“I used to invite him to the studio as a football expert because he was so knowledgeable on the game ,” Ojenge highlighted.

Cobra was the brainchild of  ‘Wadau TV’, an online show for football fans.

He also worked for LG Electronics where he was on duty when six gunmen raided the upmarket office block before unleashing mayhem, tweeting they were under attack before tragically being mowed by the terrorists on the eve of his birthday.

His body was removed to Nairobi’s Chiromo Mortuary where a host of his peers in local football, stunned at the tragic demise of the Kariokor-bred super fan, went to confirm the devastating news.
