NAIROBI, Kenya- Sofapaka FC custodian, Justin Ndikumana is ready to lead his country Burundi to lift the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) slated for June 21 to July 19 in Cairo, Egypt.

This was after the hawk-eyed keeper was presented with the SportPesa /Sports Journalists Association (SJAK) of Kenya monthly football award for March in Nairobi on Tuesday.

“I’m happy that Burundi made history by qualifying for AFCON for the first time.This feat will be told by the generations to come.

“We are not going to tour Cairo but we are aiming to return with the cup home. Our other objective is to make it to the quarterfinals in the tournament,” Ndikumana underlined.

Burundi were drawn in Group B alongside Nigeria, Guinea, Madagascar in the draw that was conducted last Friday in Cairo.The pool will be based at Alexandria Stadium in Alexandria.

On his way to winning the SportPesa /SJAK gong, Ndikumana floored Kariobangi Sharks forward Eric Kapaito and Ulinzi Stars striker Enosh Ochieng following voting that was done by a panel of sports journalists.

“I feel great winning this accolade.I’m happy the fruit of my labour has been recognised. I was able to do this because of discipline in the pitch and the confidence that head coach John Baraza, the technical bench and my fellow players shown me,” he underlined.

Ndikumana walked home with KSh100,000 courtesy of entertainment and technology business SportPesa, a trophy and a 49-inch LG television during the award ceremony with the club receiving KSh100,000.

He becomes  the second Sofapaka player to win the gong  this season after Uganda international Umar Kasumba in February.
