NAIROBI, Kenya- Kariobangi Sharks FC goal- scorer against Everton FC, Duke Abuya and six who made the Egypt 2019 CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) squad are among the players named by head coach Sébastien Migné in the Harambee Stars provisional squad for the upcoming Africa Nations Championships qualifier against Tanzania.

Kenya beat Tanzania 3-2 in their Group C AFCON clash in Egypt on June 27 and the meeting in the race to make the January 2020 finals of the second tier continental competition will be a chance for Taifa Stars to earn some measure of revenge for their loss in Cairo.

Abuya who scored a 27th minute opener for Sharks against Everton at the MISC Kasarani last Sunday before the Blues battled back to salvage the international friendly is among the new call-ups in the team that include SportPesa Premier League (SPL) champions Gor Mahia FC midfielder, Kenneth Muguna and side Ulinzi Stars FC custodian, James Saruni.

Those retained from the AFCON side where Kenya crashed out of the competition in the preliminary round are custodian, John Oyemba (Sharks), Philemon Otieno (Gor), Joash Onyango (Gor), John Avire (Sofapaka FC) and Dennis Odhiambo (Sofapaka).  

Final tournament

According to the Football Kenya Federation, the provisional squad will report to camp on July 19 ahead of the first leg of the knockout tie that will be played on July 28 in Tanzania. The teams will meet again on August 4 at the MISC Kasarani.

"The aggregate winner of the two-legged qualifier will face off with either Ethiopia or Djibouti in the second and final qualifying round, to be played on a date set to be announced in due course.

"The final tournament, reserved for players actively featuring in their respective national championships, has been scheduled for January 2020," FKF wrote on their website.
