Nairobi, Kenya- The annual Standard Chartered Trophy “Road to Anfield” football tournament to be held at St.Mary’s School Grounds in Nairobi on March 2, 2019 has attracted 48 teams.

The sides to battle for the single ticket that will see the champions qualify to take part in an international contest in Merseyside, United Kingdom (UK) on May  17 have been drawn from the media and the bank’s clients.

“At stake is a fully paid up trip to Anfield, the home of English Premier League (EPL) giants Liverpool FC. The champions will travel to the UK in a four day expedition which will see them represent Kenya in the Trophy Finals at Anfield,” bank’s CEO Lamin Manjang underlined on Monday.

“In addition, the winning team will attend an EPL match at the venue.They will also benefit from a professional training session with Liverpool legends and coaches to help prepare for the final competition at the location,” Manjang underscored.

Last year was a tough campaign for Kenya as the Wananchi Group FC who won the local event after edging out Letshego FC 3-0 in an entertaining final were knocked out in the quarters; losing 2- 1 to Hong Kong in the finals at Anfield.

Manjang challenged those who will emerge champions in the Kenyan chapter to replicate  performance by the Capital FM FC who brought the global trophy home in 2016.
