NAIROBI, Kenya-  African Nations Cup (AFCON) record goal scorer, Pierre Ndaye Mulamba has passed away in South Africa where he has been receiving treatment since September 2018.

According to https://www.kick442.com, news of the demise of former Zaire striker was broken by Democratic Republic of  Congo’s Minister of Sports and Recreation,Papy Niango Iziamay, on Saturday.

Mulamba’s treatment in South Africa was funded by former Barcelona FC striker and Cameroon legend,Samuel Etoo.Mulamba has been battling knee problems but unfortunately lost the battle on the day.

Nicknamed “Mutumbula”, Mulamba was arguably among the best forwards that Congo and Africa has ever produced.

He was the hottest property  in the 1974 AFCON held in Egypt where he scored nine goals to lead Zaire to a second continental victory after beating Zambia in the final.

Among the clubs he played for were Renaissance du Kasaï FC (1964 to 1971), AS Bantous (1971 to 1972), AS Vita Club (1972 to 1988).
