KARUTURI, Kenya- Posta Rangers FC edged Nairobi Stima FC 2-1 in the first leg of SportPesa Premier League (SPL) Play-Off Promotion held at Karuturi Grounds in Naivasha on Saturday.

Rangers took an early lead through Joackins Atudo who notched a  free kick to give the mail men a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute.

Dennis Oalo leveled 1-1 for the power men in the 44th before the sides went for half time break.

Francis Nambute stretched Rangers tally to 2-1 in the 58th.

Rangers finished the 2018/19 SPL campaign in 16th while Stima finished third in the second-tier National Super League.

The last team in the 2019/20 SPL roster will be known next Wednesday when the two sides meet for  second leg at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

Rangers under former Thika United FC head coach, Francis Kamau, finished a point below the last guaranteed SPL position behind Chemelil Sugar FC (34) after losing 1-2 to 11-time league winners, Tusker FC in their final fixture.

The mailmen have been in the top flight since 2010 before they changed their name to Rangers until 2012 when they reverted to Posta. 

Their stuttering campaign that dropped them to 16th on final day when Chemelil pulled a 1-0 win over Sony Sugar FC saw them win seven, draw 11 and lose 17 of their 38 games.

Nairobi who are hoping to join fellow power-men Western Stima FC in the SPL next term saw their dream to land automatic promotion fall short only on goal difference on the final day of the NSL last weekend.

They ended their 2018/19 season on 80 points from 22 wins, 14 draws and two loses, level with second placed Kisumu All Stars FC who joined champions Wazito FC in clinching the automatic SPL tickets on final day.
