NAIROBI, Kenya- Harambee Stars plans for their Group C Egypt 2019 CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) opener against Algeria were dealt a blow when defender Joash Onyango was ruled out of he clash with knee injury.

It was the latest blow to a defence that is already missing South Africa based Brian Mandela who is recovering from surgery after being injured in their training camp in France as well as Musa Mohammed who picked up a knock in their 1-0 friendly victory over Madagascar.

However, head coach Sebastien Migne will have Mohammed available with Zambia based David Owino and Joseph Okumu who plays in the United states lined up as replacements for the SportPesa Premier League (SPL) champions Gor Mahia FC rock.

"Onyango suffered an ankle injury in training on Saturday evening, ruling him out of the Sunday game. This comes hot on the heels of Brian Mandela’s injury with the experienced defender twisting his knee in training in Paris," Capital FM reported on Sunday.

Stars will face Tanzania and then Senegal to round off their Group C assignments with the Algeria clash kicking off at 10pm EAT (+3GMT)
