KAKAMEGA, Kenya- AFC Leopards SC's dream of clinching a record 11th domestic cup title ended on Sunday when they were tossed out of the SportPesa Shield by little-known Bungoma Super Stars FC.

There were no such problems for fellow SportPesa Premier League (SPL) side KCB FC who advanced to the round of 16 by thrashing minnows Vihiga Sportiff FC 4-0.

All eyes were at Bukhungu Stadium where Bungoma claimed their second successive big scalp when they sent Leopards crashing out 4-3 on post-match penalties after the teams shared a tense 1-1 draw in full time.

Having ended three-time winners Sofapaka FC's run in the round of 64, Bungoma crushed the hopes of Leopards who have won the competition a record equalling 10 times of lifting any silverware this season

In Wundanyi, Congo Boys FC edged Mwatate  United FC 5-4 on penalties after a barren draw in normal time.

Hosts Western Stima FC sliced Wazito FC 2-1 at Moi Stadium in Kisumu to carry the day.

There was a tough battle at Ukunda Show Ground where SS Assad piped Naivas FC 9-8 on penalties after the two sides battled to a 0-0 draw. SS Asad sunk Ulinzi Stars FC 5-4 in round 32 of the competition staged at the venue three weeks ago.

Those who soared KCB against Vihiga were Chrispin Onyango who notched a brace,Simon Munala and Mukoma Brian who scored an own goal.

“The game was tough at the start but we scored two quick goals that opened up the match and we were able to take control.

“We are taking each game at a time  with great hope that we will be finalists in this competition,” KCB head coach, Frank Ouna underlined.
