Kenya Women Football League Kick Off Has Been Delayed, Here Is The Reason

NAIROBI, Kenya- Defending champions Vihiga Queens FC will kick off their Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Women Premier League title defense against Vihiga Leeds FC at Mumias Sports Complex on March 3.

At the same time, promoted sides Nyuki Starlets FC and Kibera Girls Soccer Academy FC will be up against Soccer Queens FC and Gaspo Youth FC in that order in their maiden top tier matches on the day.

The 2019 league was scheduled to kick off this Sunday but has since been postponed to March 2 on logistical grounds.

“We pushed the kick off to a later date as clubs requested the federation for more time to make adequate arrangements for the 16-team unified league,” stated a communique released by FKF on Thursday.

At the same time, Women Division One League will start on March 30 following successful completion of the 2018 season whose playoff was won by Nyuki Starlets at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru on January 30.

The league will also be comprised of 16 teams, grouped into two zones with eight teams each. The champions from either zone will gain automatic qualification to top flight in 2020.
