DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania- The 2019 SportPesa Cup winners, Kariobangi Sharks FC, completed a pre-season tour of Tanzania on Tuesday morning after falling to a narrow 2-1 defeat at the hands of Kinondoni Municipal FC.

Sharks arrived in the Tanzanian capital on Saturday afternoon ahead of two friendly matches set to help them as they prepare to get the SportPesa Premier League (SPL) underway on Friday, August 30.

As many fans did not grace the early morning kick off against Kinondoni at the National Stadium as the weekend fixture over Yanga SC, but the local side maintained their calm to beat the Kenyans.

The hosts took an early lead from Serge in the 21st minute, but in-form striker Julius Masaba got the equalizing goal two minutes after.

Vitalis Mayanga had the last say in the 82nd minute, condemning Sharks to their first defeat of their Tanzanian pre-season campaign.

In a match deemed as a revenge mission by the Tanzanian giants Yanga SC, attacking namesakes Patrick Otieno and Patrick Sibomana had the last say as both sides played out to a 1-1 draw.

Earlier in the year, Sharks battled to a 3-2 victory over the Dar giants to knock them out of the eight-team regional tournament on their way to a memorable win that granted them the opportunity to host Everton FC in Nairobi.

The unforgettable 4-3 penalty shootout victory over the nine-time English league winners was the first test of pre-season action that William Muluya’s side experienced.

Ace Duke Abuya became the first Kenyan to score against the English Premier League side during their maiden visit to the country, having played against Gor Mahia FC in Dar es Saalam in 2017.

Sharks are set to jet back into the country to continue their last minute preparations before their first 2019/20 SPL assignment against Western Stima FC.
