NAIROBI, Kenya- Kennedy Owino was the hero for KCB FC as the Bankers got their first win of the season, edging 10-man AFC Leopards 1-0 at the Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.

The victory lifts them from the relegation zone for the first time this season with five points, two behind eleventh-place Leopards.

Shami Kibwana missed a penalty in the 36th minute, Jairus Adira saving the spot kick but KCB made amends two minutes later as Kenneth Owino scored to give them the lead.

KCB got the match underway as they came into the game searching for a maiden win in the 2018/19 SPL season.Jaffery Odeny got the first shot on target for the visiting Leopards but KCB goalkeeper Omar Adisa saw it all the way through.

Leopards enjoyed most of the possession as the first half progressed but failed to find that finishing touch they needed in the last third.Leopards left back Isaac Oduro was injured following a bad collision in the 23rd minute and couldn’t continue, being replaced by Abdallah Yusuf.

In the 30th, there was a stoppage in the game as Nicodemus Onyango of KCB went down injured.The referee awarded KCB a penalty in the 36th but Jairus Adira was the hero for Leopards as he saved Shami Kibwana’s spot kick.

Two minutes later, KCB went 1-0 up after a cool finish by Kennedy Owino from inside the penalty area.In the 43rd, Mukangula came close with a fierce left-footed shot but it went inches over the KCB goal.

Referee signalled for half-time with the Bankers taking a 1-0 lead into the break.Leopards kicked off the second half and kept up the pressure as they searched for that equalising goal.

The Bankers made their second change of the game in the 60th, Clinton Kisiavuki coming off and being replaced by Simon Munala.Mukangula was set up by Aziz Okaka two minutes later but his effort went flying over the bar yet again.

New signing Tutawe Wayyeka came on to replace Okaka in the 67th, as Leopards continued to search for that elusive equaliser.Munala got KCB’s second shot on target in the 79th but Adira was wary of the threat and stopped the goal bound effort.

Leopards saw a ball cleared off the line in the dying moments of the game but it just wasn’t their day as the referee blew for full time.
