It Won't Be Easy But We Can Beat Tanzania- Harambee Stars Coach Migne

NAIROBI, Kenya- Harambee Stars head coach Sebastian Migne is optimistic that his youthful squad has what it takes to register a vital win against Tanzania when the two sides meet in the second leg of the 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier.

The Taifa Stars could not break the visiting Kenyans at the National Main Stadium in Dar es Salaam last Sunday, as both sides had to settle for a barren draw on the day.

The grudge match came exactly a month after Kenya battled to a famous 3-2 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) victory over their noisy neighbors courtesy of a brace by Japan-based striker Michael Olunga.

The second leg will be played on Sunday, August 4 at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi and Migne maintains a positive attitude regarding what his developmental side are capable of doing.

“The draw was a good result for both teams. It’s an opportunity for my youth team to learn again as they have a great possibility to qualify to the next round.

“I’ve told them to remain humble and it is up to them to repeat the same performance at home. I don’t know if they will be able to do that, but I believe we will have an answer in a week’s time,” Migne stated.

The Kenyan side was captained by Sofapaka FC midfielder Dennis Odhiambo and Kariobangi Sharks FC duo of goalkeeper John Oyemba and Duke Abuya were fortunate enough to make their national team debuts over the weekend.

AFC Leopards SC midfielder Whyvonne Isuza missed a clear cut chance in the second half but other than that, Harambee Stars played second fiddle to the hosts throughout the encounter with Simba SC star John Bocco proving to be the most dangerous.

“Of course, it will not be easy in Nairobi because we will be playing under pressure looking for the qualification. We will attack throughout the match but with good compromise not to concede a counter-attack.

“But I’ve to remain positive. We have a small advantage after the draw but as you know we have a young squad and I don’t know which behavior we can have under pressure,” the French tactician underlined.

Kenya has failed to qualify for all five editions of the tournament, most recently the 2018 one when the country was stripped off the hosting rights.

Harambee Stars need nothing less than a win to progress by eliminating Tanzania and if the game is to end in another barren draw, post-match penalties will be taken to determine the winner.

The winner on aggregate will book a date with Sudan on a yet to be confirmed date. The continental finals will be held in Cameroon early next year.
