NAIROBI, Kenya- Harambee Stars were beaten 4-1 on post-match penalties by Tanzania to end their quest for a place in the 2020 Africa Nations Championships (CHAN) slated for Cameroon.

The victory at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi means that noisy neighbors Tanzania advance and set up an enticing date with Sudan, which will be played later, at a date that remains yet to be confirmed.

On the other hand, the Kenyans are still waiting for their debut in the regional tournament and will be gutted to be missing the sixth edition early next year.

The Taifa Stars got the revenge they were out for since Kenya outmuscled them at the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations, with an impressive 3-2 victory.

Stars head coach Sébastien Migné had ruled out penalties in the second leg earlier in the week but clearly he was mistaken as the cruel spot kicks bundled his side out of the qualifiers.

Migne only made one change handing Musa Masika a start and had to make an early change on the day as Gor Mahia FC defender Philemon Otieno was forced off injured, being replaced by Ibrahim Shambi.

Neither side seemed more threatening as the game progressed and went into the break with the score still goalless.

The second half also failed to produce any clear cut chance that threatened enough to break the deadlock in the tightly-contested game.

The match ended just as it had at the National Main Stadium in Dar es Saalam, Tanzania a week ago meaning that there would have to be a penalty shootout to decide the neighbors fate.

Elsewhere, Burundi sealed a 4-1 victory over South Sudan with a well-deserved 2-1 second leg victory in Uganda.
