New head coach Steven George Pollack gave debuts to Tanzanian goalkeeper Robert Mapigano and Tobias Otieno as new captain Kenneth Muguna led his team out for the first time.

Both sides could not break the others defense and had to settle for a draw with the second leg set to be played in a week at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi.

Pollack, who was unveiled as the new coach on Thursday following the departure of Turkish-Cypriot Hassan Oktay, was deputized by Patrick Odhiambo on the touchline.
