NAIROBI, Kenya- Chemelil Sugar FC head coach, Francis Baraza, believes he has found a winning formula for his side that has been struggling in the 2018/19 SportPesa Premier League (SPL) season.

The tactician’s trust has been motivated by their 2-0 victory against Posta Rangers FC at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos last Sunday.

“We started the league on a shaky note. This is because I had a completely different squad and we made changes to our playing unit and the new players needed some time to gel,” he underlined.

“Expect to see more impressive performances from us in the coming fixtures because we are now unstoppable,” underscored Baraza whose target is to lift the SPL trophy this year.

Chemelil had a rough start in the new term, losing 0-2 in their opening match against Mathare United FC at Moi International Sports Center Kasarani on December 8.

Chemelil struggled  to pull a 1-1 draw in their second clash against visiting Vihiga United FC at the Chemelil Sports Complex on December 15 before succumbing to a 0-2  loss against Zoo Kericho FC at the Kericho Green Stadium a week later.

Relegation zone

Chemelil’s first victory came four days later after Christmas when they hosted  bottom placed Mt. Kenya United FC in an encounter where they emerged 2-0 winners.

“I thought this was the start of good tidings, but I was wrong. We still had a difficult task ahead and I had to go back to the drawing board to establish the problem after we lost the next  fixtures,” Baraza highlighted.

Chemelil went down in their midweek clash against defending champions, Gor Mahia FC 0-2 in Machakos on January 2 before they hosted newcomers, Western Stima FC, who edged them 0-1 at the Chemelil Complex.

Despite the losses, Baraza is optimistic that they will rise above the storms to conquer new heights in the remaining part of  the season.

The victory against Posta last weekend lifted Chemelil out of the relegation zone and this inspired Baraza’s hope of clinching the league as his vision is to see the team engage in continental football next year.

Chemelil are currently placed the 14th on the SPL log with seven points after two wins, one draw and four losses.
