BURNLEY, England- Everton returned to winning ways in scintillating style at Turf Moor after three goals in a breathtaking 20-minute spell effectively wrapped up the three points.

The Toffees raced into an unassailable first-half lead thanks to Yerry Mina’s first goal for the Toffees, a stunning Lucas Digne free-kick and a Gylfi Sigurdsson penalty on a memorable Christmas afternoon in Lancashire.

Ben Gibson pulled a goal back before half-time, which briefly offered hope to the home fans, but another sensational long-range strike from Digne midway through the second half killed off any thoughts of a comeback.

Substitute Richarlison then beat Joe Hart with the outside of his boot in stoppage time to wrap up a richly-merited victory.

It took the Blues just two minutes to break the Clarets’ resolve, Mina rising highest inside the six-yard box to meet Bernard’s cross with a bullet header. It was Everton’s 7,000th goal in the top-flight – the first club to achieve such a milestone.

Things got even better for Marco Silva’s men 11 minutes later when Digne stepped up to bend a brilliant free-kick around the wall and inside’s Joe Hart’s right-hand post. It was almost a carbon copy of his injury-time strike against Watford earlier in the month.

By now the Blues were in a rampant mood and they added a third in the 22nd minute when Ben Mee handled a cross and Sigurdsson emphatically dispatched the resulting penalty.

Burnley briefly threatened to make life difficult for the visitors when Gibson atoned for his earlier error, guiding a low shot inside the post from close range after Michael Keane had smuggled a James Tarkowski header off the line.

But the Blues reasserted their authority with a dominant second-half performance and Digne added further gloss to the scoreline when he beat Hart with a snaking 20-yard strike in the 71st minute.

Richarlison, on as a substitute, then met Sigurdsson’s expert pass in injury-time to bag his ninth goal of the campaign, an early swipe with the outside of his boot catching out Hart to put the wrapping on a comfortable festive win.
