FIFA Rankings: Kenya Improve As Belgium Remain On Top

Harambee Stars good run in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and recent international friendlies contributed to the improved position

LAUSANNE, Switzerland- Kenya has moved three places up in the latest FIFA rankings released by the world football governing body on Friday.

The country is now in position 105 alongside Libya after amassing 1207 points. 

The improvement is as a result of national team Harambee Stars good run in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers among other recent friendly matches that were aimed to sharpen the side.

Senegal, who are with Kenya in the Egypt 2019 AFCON Pool C, top Africa and are 22nd in the world  on 1515. 

Uganda are 80th in the world on 1299 while Tanzania are 131 on 1105.

Portugal climbed two places to fifth after adding the inaugural Nations League title to their European Championship crown.

Fernando Santos' side leapfrogged Croatia and Uruguay.

Portugal beat the Netherlands 1-0 in the final in Porto thanks to a second-half strike from Goncalo Guedes, after a Cristiano Ronaldo hat-trick had seen them past Switzerland in the semis.

The Dutch, who failed to qualify for both Euro 2016 and last year's World Cup, also gained two spots, rising to a tie for 14th.

Belgium remain atop the rankings ahead of world champions France after back-to-back 3-0 wins over Kazakhstan and Scotland in Euro 2020 qualifying.
