NAIROBI, Kenya- Ugandan forward Erisa Ssekisambu’s hat-trick stole the show from another Dennis Oliech goal as he inspired Gor Mahia FC to a resounding 4-1 victory over bottom side Mt. Kenya United FC on Wednesday afternoon.

The victory lifted Gor into fourth on the SportPesa Premier League (SPL) standings with 13 points from seven games, whilst Mt. Kenya remain rock bottom with only two points to their name from eight matches.

Ugandan striker Erisa Ssekisambu got off the mark for his new club with a goal in the second minute of the game, to give the 17-time league winners the perfect start.

It was a record of the same script for Gor as they failed to capitalize on the chances they created throughout the half.

Referee blew for half-time with the champions a goal to the good.

Hassan Oktay’s half-time team talk seemed to have worked as his side came out more clinical in the second stanza.

Kenya’s record goal scorer Dennis Oliech was thrown into the fray and made an instant impact, finding the back of the net in the 60th to stretch Gor’s lead.

It was the former Ligue 1 striker’s second goal for his new club, having scored a crucial winner in a 2-1 win over Posta Rangers FC at the Kasarani Stadium.

Missed penalty

Two minutes later, Mt. Kenya were reduced to ten men and that seemed to have put the game beyond the visitors.

Though, seven minutes later former Gor midfielder Moses ‘Dube’ Odhiambo pulled a goal back, restoring the hope that they could get something out of the game.

Ugandan striker Ssekisambu got his second of the game in the 77th to give K’Ogalo a commanding 3-1 lead and probably all three points.

The drama was far from over as Odhiambo got the chance to notch his brace from the penalty spot in the 90th but was unlucky.

Ssekisambu made it a day to remember as he got his hat-trick with seconds left on the clock, to seal a remarkable victory for the defending champions.

Gor will be out of league action this weekend as they are set to leave the country on Friday for the second leg of their CAF Confederations Cup play-off tie against New Stars de Douala in Cameroon.

Gor take a 2-1 advantage into Sunday’s match as they seek a second consecutive appearance in the continental competition.

Oktay’s side will then proceed to Dar es Saalam in Tanzania where they will be defending the SportPesa Cup that they won in 2017 and 2018.
