Continental Champion Manvir Takes Early Lead In KNRC Kilifi Leg

KILIFI, Kenya- Reigning FIA African Rally Champion Manvir Baryan has established an early 20 second lead at the ongoing KCB Kilifi Rally at the coast.

Driving a Skoda Fabia R5 and navigated by Drew Sturrock, the three-time continental winner clocked 18 minutes 30 seconds to beat Onkar Rai who was first off the rump at the opening 21km night stage at Mombasa Cement on Friday.

Rai was forced to retire early after he ran out of fuel in the grueling competition. Rai's teammate Baldev Chager, who is out for a hat-trick of wins, was third fastest, losing out second place by just nine seconds.

The event which counts towards the fourth round of the Kenya National Rally Championship will traverse several stages around Ganze and Bamba.

Mombasa Cement farm which hosted the Friday night stage at Vipingo will be the designated spectator stage on Saturday.

“I am confident that our support will continue to impact motorsport positively as we gear up for a return to the world rally championship,” KCB Coast Region Business Manager, Jane Isiaho underlined.

The first three events of the eight-legged circuit were held in Nakuru, Kajiado and Niavasha which also hosted the WRC Candidate Safari Rally Championship.
