KISUMU, Kenya- Leaders Gor Mahia FC edged Chemelil Sugar FC 2-0 in a SportPesa Premier League fixture held at Moi Stadium in Kisumu on Wednesday evening to maintain their seven point lead against second placed Sofapaka.

At the same time, AFC Leopards SC were held to a 1-1 draw by Zoo Kericho at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on the day.

Kenneth Muguna gave Gor a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute before Samuel Ouma stretched the tally to 2-0 in the 77th.

The victory helped Gor (63 points) to maintain their  margin against rivals Sofapaka who also earned a 2-0 win over Western Stima FC in the other double header match in Machakos. 

Chemelil (29) dipped to 14th after the loss and will have to work hard in their remaining encounters to escape the axe.

Leopards opened the score-sheet early through new signing Paul Were who gave them a 1-0 lead in the 12th before Zoo equalised in the 87th to share the spoils.

The draw left Leopards (38) in 10th while Zoo (22) are still in the relegation zone with basement side Mount Kenya United FC.

In the Thursday SPL line up, Nzoia Sugar will host Kakamega Homeboyz FC at Sudi Stadium in Bungoma as Sony battle Kenya Commercial Bank FC at Green Stadium in Awendo.

Ulinzi Stars will  entertain Posta Rangers at Afraha in Nakuru while the battle between Tusker and Mount Kenya will be staged in Machakos.
