MACHAKOS, Kenya- Gor Mahia FC opened up a seven-point gap at the SportPesa Premier League (SPL) summit after a convincing 2-0 win against Tusker FC at the Kenyatta Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Gor, who were awarded a walk over after Mt. Kenya United FC did not show up for their Thursday league game, now have 55 points and look on course for a third successive title.

Sofapaka FC are the closest challengers in second place and have the chance to reduce the point difference when they take on Mathare United FC  tomorrow at the same venue.

The defeat was Tusker’s first in five matches, leaving them in sixth with 38.

The game was the second of a double header in Machakos, with Kakamega Homeboyz FC scoring an 88th minute equalizer to salvage a 1-1 draw with newcomers Kenya Commercial Bank FC.

Dependable Rwandese forward Jacques Tuyisenge opened the scoring in the 16th minute to give K’Ogalo a deserved lead.

Samuel Onyango followed with a second in the 32nd for a 2-0 score that they took into the halftime break.

The second half was cagey and failed to produce lots of clear cut chances on goal except for a fine save by Gor keeper Shaban Odhoji with a quarter of an hour left in the encounter.

Gor now travel to Nakuru on Monday for a league match against Ulinzi Stars FC at the Afraha Stadium.
