Reigning African women's volleyball champions retain crown by edging fantastic final 3-2 in Cairo on Sunday night

CAIRO, Egypt- Malkia Strikers will depart Egypt with the silver medal yet again after falling just short of reclaiming the African Women Volleyball title following their dramatic 3-2 loss to Cameroon in the final played at 6 October Hall in Cairo on Sunday night.

Bidding to become 10-time continental champions, the national team braved lack of proper funding and support to put together a storming run and during the fantastic final, they went down 25-17, 25-27, 25-23, 23-25 and 16-14 to Cameroon who retained the crown they won on home soil in 2017.

In the bronze medal match, Senegal surprised Egypt 3-1 (25-17, 25-17, 14-25, 28-26) to finish third.

In the ranking, 5-6 places Algeria regained rhythm to overcome Morocco 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-20) to finish fifth ahead of the losers sixth.
