SEVILLE, Spain- Record five-time UEFA Europa League champions Sevilla FC will land in Dar-es-Salaam later Tuesday ahead of their clash with Tanzanian giants Simba SC in a SportPesa Trophy showdown on Thursday.

Head coach Joaquin Caparros and his team who are fresh from finishing sixth in the Spanish top flight 2018/19 La Liga campaign last weekend will take on the 18-time Tanzanian league winners in their last fixture before breaking for the summer holidays.

"The team travel on Tuesday to Dar es Salaam and will return on Thursday after the game and will then begin their holidays. The match will be live on SFCTV.

"Sevilla FC, after ending the La Liga season on Saturday against Athletic Bilbao at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan, have one more match before going off on holidays.

"The team will head off to Tanzania around 10:00 CEST on Tuesday where they will play a friendly in the National Stadium of Dar-es-Salaam, the country's capital, against the local team, Simba SC.

"The match will take place at 18:00 CEST and will be broadcast live on SFCTV," the Spanish titans said in a press statement on their website.

SportPesa initiative

"The match is part of the LaLiga World powered by SportPesa initiative which is a part of the wider LaLiga World Challenge project which aims to promote Spanish football throughout the world, spreading the Spanish Brand, bringing La Liga closer to its followers and promoting La Liga clubs outside of Spain.

"Sevilla FC will be the first Spanish club to visit Tanzania to play a friendly and will be the second European club to do so after Everton did in 2017. After returning on Friday, the team will begin their summer holidays," it added.

With three games to go, Simba are closing in on the Tanzanian Premier League title, topping the standings on 85 points from 33 games, two clear of Dar arch rivals Yanga SC with the advantage of two games in hand over the record domestic club champions where Azam (68) are a distant third. 

It will be an exciting end of the European season for East Africa football fans with Everton due in Nairobi to play SportPesa Cup champions, Kariobangi Sharks FC in another SportPesa Trophy clash at the MISC Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi on July 7.

Sharks won the eight-team regional knockout tournament held in Tanzania where they edged SportPesa Premier League rivals Bandari FC 1-0 at the National Stadium in Dar on January 27.

The Kenyan sides had edged Tanzanian outfits Mbao FC and Simba in the semi finals in that order to book a final date where Sharks prevailed to win the right to play Everton.
