MOMBASA, Kenya- Hosts Bandari FC thrashed Tusker FC 3-1 at Mbaraki Stadium in Mombasa to move to second place in the SportPesa Premier League (SPL) standings on Thursday evening.

The visitors were put ahead by Eugene Asike in the 22nd minute but the SportPesa Cup finalists fought back to level the scores 1-1 through Shaban Kenga in the 33rd before the break.

The Dockers resumed the game rejuvenated and their effort paid off through prolific goal poacher Yemi Mwama and Benjamin Mosha who found the back of the net in the 47th and 90th in that order to stretch their tally to 3-1.

Mwama, who is also in the race for Golden Boot alongside Allan Wanga of Kakamega Homeboyz FC (18 goals), Umaru Kasumba of Sofapaka FC (16), Enosh Ochieng of Ulinzi Stars FC (16), Cliff Nyakeya of Mathare United FC (13)and Derrick Otanga of Sony Sugar FC (11) took his total to 11.

The victory saw Bandari move to second on 58 points, eight behind league leaders Gor Mahia FC who are due to take rivals AFC Leopards SC head-on in a crunch Mashemeji Derby at Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani in Nairobi on Sunday.

Bandari eclipsed Sofapaka FC who lost to Gor 2-0 at Moi Stadium in Kisumu last Sunday while Tusker remained in seventh on 46 after the defeat.
