Machakos double header sees Sugar Millers break into top 10 as 12-time champions woes continue in 0-1 reverse to Ulinzi Stars

MACHAKOS, Kenya- Visiting Sony Sugar FC edged Kenya Commercial Bank FC 1-0 as trouble AFC Leopards SC woes continued on Sunday in a SportPesa Premier League (SPL) double header at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos match on Sunday.

Robert Achema hit a thunder bolt into the net to give the sugar millers a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute and the Awendo based side held on to climb to eighth on the log for the time being on 19 points.

The loss dropped the Bankers (15) to 12th as their recent good run that saw them recover from a poor start on their return to the SPL to go eight without defeat ended. 

In the other match at the same venue, Leopards remained stuck in the relegation zone when they also went down to an early Daniel Waweru goal notched in the fourth minute.

Their seventh loss of the campaign left the domestic giants second from bottom on 10 points with Mount Kenya United FC who lost 1-2 at Western Stima FC at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu.

New Ingwe head coach, Cassa Mbongo has now lost three SPL games in a row with his side failing to bounce back from their 0-2 loss to arch enemies Gor Mahia FC in the Mashemeji Derby in the previous round of action.

Mathare United FC were the last team to beat Frank Ouna's KCB in the top flight competition on January 2 in a 1-2 reverse.

Since then, the former SPL champions Gor Mahia FC assistant head coach had led the side to three wins and five draws, including the prized 1-0 upset over the titleholders on  January 27 having earlier beaten 12-time league winners AFC Leopards SC by the same score on January 12.

Elsewhere, hosts Vihiga United FC surrendered the points to visiting Posta Rangers FC in a 0-1 loss at Mumias Complex.

The loss condemned Vihiga, who have only won one fixture this season, to occupy the SPL/National Super League play-off place above Leopards on goal difference as Rangers climbed to 13th with 14.

Fredrick Nyarombo scored a 51st minute winner for Stima FC (23) to send Mt. Kenya to the basement in a result that moved the power men up to fifth.

At Green Stadium in Kericho, Zoo FC held former SPL log leaders Mathare (26) to a barren draw as Francis Kimanzi's side missed the chance to regain top spot from Bandari FC (28) who beat Kariobangi Sharks FC 1-0 on Saturday.
