KISUMU, Kenya – Visiting Strathmore University Blades edged Lakeside 68- 66 in a hotly contested Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) men’s Premier League encounter staged at Kenyatta Sports Grounds in Kisumu over the weekend.

Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), who are also on a tour of the lakeside town, thrashed Western Delight 88-37 in a KBF Women’s Premier League duel.

Hosts United States International University (USIU) Tigers picked a 20-00 walk over after Trailblazers failed to turn-up for their men’s clash as the post-season showdowns loom in the top divisions of the local championships.

Kenyatta University Pirates took a 30-26 half time lead before slicing Zetech University 64-62 at the same venue.

Upperhill also overcame Neosasa Morans 59-39 with the help of Kur Ajang and Jok Ezekiel who contributed 12 and 20 points in that order.

Evelyn Itabo (17) and Melissa Akinyi (14) steered Storms against Footprints with 51-34 win in the only women’s match.

Mustangs rise

At the same time, in the second tier Mustangs edged Baraka Xtreme 63-61 in Game 2 of the on going Nairobi Basketball Association (NBA) semi-finals play-offs at Upperhill School Grounds in Nairobi.

The leaders beat the opponents 47-35 in Game 1 of the competition played to the best of five series.

“Our victories are as a result of unity that we have in the team. Everyone is working hard for the wins,” Mustangs power forward, Phillip Tobias, underlined.

Tobias and Simon Rapudo notched eight points each in their first clash with the opponents as Calveen Apwoka, Amos Wachira and Ken Githinji did the same for Xtreme.

Nibs Feba beat Uhuru Warriors 50-37 to take a 2-0 advantage in the other men’s play-off where Cletus Musingu was instrumental for the winners when he sunk 27 to guide his side to a 67-50 win in Game 1.

Meanwhile, Safe Spaces and Riara University also took their tally to 2-0 in the corresponding women’s semis.

Safe Spaces beat Lof Spears 55-41 as Riara overcame Daystar University 39-35 in a low scoring match.
