Tunisia bounced back from their opening defeat in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in fine style as they hammered Mauritania 4-0 at the Limbe Stadium on Sunday.

Veteran Wahbi Khazri scored twice to inspire the rout and guarantee all three points for the North Africans as they continue to battle for a place in the knockout stages.

Hamza Mathlouthi and Seifeddine Jaziri were also on target for Tunisia who are third in Group F with three points after two games.

Tunisia had the chance to make it five after they were awarded a penalty in the 90th minute but Youssef Msakni saw his spot kick saved by Babacar Diop.

Earlier in that group, Gambia battled to a 1-1 draw against the fancied Mali, keeping their hopes of progression very much alive.

Musa Barrow's late strike cancelled out Ibrahima Konate's opening goal as the surprise package of the 2021 Afcon finals showed character against the Eagles.

The Gambia remain undefeated in their debut appearance in the Africa Cup of Nations finals after an opening day victory against Mauritania.

They are atop the group standings with 4 points, level with Mali, setting up an enticing fixture against Tunisia in their final group game on Thursday.

In Group E, there was late drama as Alhaji Kamara scored a last gap effort to salvage a 2-2 draw against Ivory Coast in an enthralling encounter at the Japoma Stadium.

AC Milan forward Franck Kessie missed a penalty in the 12th minute but Ajax forward Sebastian Haller was on hand to give the Ivorians the lead in the 25th minute.

Mohamed Nbalie Kamara then leveled matters for Sierra Leone 10 minutes after the restart to set up a tantalizing remainder.

Arsenal forward Nicholas Pepe scored his first goal of the tournament ten minutes later and it looked like it was going to be a second consecutive win for Ivory Coast.

However, it was not meant to be as Kamara's effort ensured that Sierra Leone remain unbeaten after two consecutive draws to leave them in second place.

The two other teams in that group, Algeria and Equatorial Guinea lock horns later in the day.
