It has been a shaky start for the Kenyans who have already competed at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, starting with the exit of the national men's rugby sevens team.

Shujaa lost all their Pool matches to USA, South Africa and eventually Ireland - leading them to bow out of the Summer Games.

However, the Kenyans will leave on a high after managing two wins to secure ninth place at the ongoing Olympic Games.

They beat Ireland 22-0 in captain Andrew Amonde's final game in a Kenyan jersey to add onto the 21-7 defeat they inflicted on hosts Japan in the 9-12 positions placing.

Johnstone Olindi scored and converted on the stroke of half time to give Shujaa a 7-0 lead at the interval.

This was followed by three unconverted second half tries from Jacob Ojee, Willy Ambaka and Daniel Taabu to secure the 22-0 result.

Elsewhere, all four of Kenya's boxers who made it to Tokyo have been knocked out of their individual disciplines after losses to their opponents.

Nick Okoth and Christine Ongare were eliminated in the opening days of the competition.

Captain Okoth was beaten by Mongolia’s Erdenebatyn Tsendbaatar on Saturday while Ongare lost to Philippine’s Irish Magno on Sunday.

On Tuesday, Elly Ajowi and Elizabeth Akinyi became the latest victims of an early Olympics exit after they lost to Cuban Julio Cruz and Mozambique's Helen Panguana.

Kenya's women's volleyball team still have a chance to finish on a high despite losing both opening games to Japan and South Korea.

Malkia Strikers lost 3-0 (24-14, 25-22 and 26-24) to Korea Republic in their second match at the Tokyo Olympics.

“I wish we can have that finishing touch in our matches. That was the reason why we could not a win a set against Japan in the first match and was also the case against Korea on Tuesday,” team captain Mercy Moim stated.

They are currently at the bottom of Group A, which is led by Serbia with 6 points after two games.

Kenya still have matches against the group leaders, Brazil and the Dominican Republic where they can fight for a win at least to increase their qualification chances.

The country had a reason to smile though as Danilo Rosafio won heat 2 of the men's 100m freestyle in 52.54.

Jagger Stephens of Guam finished second in 52.72 whereas Grenada's Delron Felix finished third in 52.99.
