Manchester City pulled off a remarkable comeback to beat Aston Villa 3-2 to clinch the English Premier League title for a second successive season.

Ilkay Gundogan came off the bench to engineer a scintillating three-goal frenzy in five minutes to overturn a 2-0 deficit at the Etihad Stadium.

It looked as if Villa manager Steven Gerrard might help his former club Liverpool secure the title - until City turned the game on its head in at atmosphere bordering on hysteria.

Matty Cash and Philippe Coutinho had put Villa on course for a crucial win that would have told one of the most dramatic Premier League tales.

City needed the 3 points as Liverpool came from a goal down as well to beat Wolves 3-1 at Anfield but it all counted for nothing in the end.

Both results meant that City finished top of the table with 93 points, one ahead of Jurgen Klopp's side who turn their focus to the Champions League final next Saturday.

City lost just three times in league play, twice to Tottenham—the first time coming in the first game of the season—and once to Crystal Palace

At the end of the day it was the City substitutes that sealed the title for Pep Guardiola with Gundogan's header bringing them back into the game before Rodri scored two minutes later.

The other substitute Raheem Sterling then provided an assist for Gundogan to put the icing on the cake, sending the Etihad into delirium.

Pedro Neto had given Wolves an early lead at Anfield but Sadio Mane canceled out his effort to make it 1-1 at halftime.

Mohamed Salah came off the bench to give the reds the lead before Andy Robertson scored minutes later to give Liverpool their third consecutive league win.
