SUMMARY
  • Shabana secured a huge win against fellow strugglers Sofapaka.
  • It was their first win after two losses and one draw and only their third win of the season in 15 games.
  • KCB beat Kenya Police in the other match.

Shabana FC hammered Sofapaka 4-1 in an epic match staged at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homabay on Saturday, December 16 to end their three-game winless run as they eased their relegation worries.

It only took five minutes for Shabana to find the back of the net with Omuri Ezekieh getting the opening goal.

Tore Bobe then extinguished Batoto ba Mungu’s hopes of getting level before the break when Omuri turned from scorer to provider as he assisted Brian Michira in the 40th minute to double the hosts’ advantage.

In the second half, Shabana resumed from where they left before the half time break, with their attackers causing their opponents numerous problems.

Omuri was at it once again with his defense splitting passes when he set up Wycliffe Nthata in the 64th mark to give Shabana a commanding 3-0 lead.

However, while Shabana supporters were busy celebrating the goal, Austin Wahongo pulled one back for the visitors just two minutes later.

Wahongo’s goal was not enough for Sofapaka to produce a comeback as highly-rated forward Nehemiah Onchiri scored Shabana’s fourth goal at the stroke of the 70th minute to put the game to bed.

Omuri, who produced a man of the match performance, was also involved in Onchiri’s goal, finishing the game with a hat-trick of assists.

The huge win also ensured the Kisii-based club moved out of the relegation zone, displacing Sofapaka from position 13 thanks to their better goal difference.

In other matches, KCB beat Police FC 2 -1 at the Sacco grounds to climb up to third on the log with 27 points, one less than leaders and defending champions Gor Mahia FC who play on Sunday.

Murang’a Seal’s trip to the coastal region ended in tears as they were beaten 2-0 by Bandari FC at Mbaraki grounds. Bandari’s goals came courtesy of William Wadri and Umar Kasumba’s spot kick.

A number of crunch ties have been lined up for Sunday with Kakamega Homeboyz set to host rivals AFC Leopards at Nyayo Stadium while Gor Mahia visit an unpredictable FC Talanta side. All of the six matches are expected to kick off at 3 pm.
