Shabana appoint ex-Gor Mahia man Pamzo as new head coach

Pamzo's appointment concluded a three-month long search for Sammy Okoth's successor.

Shabana FC has confirmed the appointment of former Gor Mahia player and assistant tactician Sammy “Pamzo” Omollo as their new head coach.

The struggling Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) side made the announcement on Wednesday morning, putting to rest rumours on who would take over at the club.

“It is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of Sammy “Pamzo” Omollo as the head coach of Shabana FC, effective today 10 January 2024.

Sammy Omollo brings a wealth of experience, expertise and a proven track record in the realm of football coaching,” part of the press release from the club read.

The statement which was signed by the club’s secretary general Elizaphan Kerama ended by wishing Omollo success in his new role.

Omollo is not a new man in football management. The retired Harambee Stars defender has previously coached a number of clubs in the country.

He started his managerial career with Mahakama FC between 2009 and 2010 before heading to Tusker where he stayed for two years.

The 53-year-old has also had coaching stints with Zetech University, Sony Sugar, KCB and Oserian football clubs.

Moreover, Omollo led Posta Rangers technical bench between 2019 and 2021 before taking charge at Kenya Police where he was shown the door due to poor performances in December 2022.

As a player, Omollo won numerous titles for various clubs at the domestic and international levels. He helped Gor Mahia win the Kenya Premier League title in 1993 before playing an influential role in Tusker’s triumph in 1994 and 1996.

A huge task awaits him at Shabana, who currently occupy one of the relegation spots in the FKFPL standings with 14 points.

The Kisii-based side which parted ways with Sammy Okoth late last year has only managed three wins in 17 games this season.

Omollo will have to organize Shabana’s defense for them to stand a chance of avoiding the axe since the club has conceded one of the most goals in the league so far (24). Only Ulinzi Stars (27) have let in more goals than them.
